Bit of a closet Volvo fan here, first legal car I owned was a 240 GL estate on a x plate, auto with the 2.1 engine. Many happy memories of that car.

Since had a 740 saloon for towing etc, and miss the old 80s swedes

Anyhow, at the recent NEC Classic car show, I was taken back by a volvo I had never seen before, the 780, it looked superb, and really for some reason got under my skin. I have read that they had either a V6 or the turbo lump.

Anyone have more info about them, or how even to find one for sale etc?

Many thanks guys

Built by bertone and obviously based around the 700 series (760 i think). It was a small production run and I think only for the north American Market so all left hookers - you are right about the engines - the PRV V6 and 2.3 turbo were on offer. Owning one over would be a nightmare for cosmetic and body parts but as the mechanicals are 760, they are both available and well proven. The only problems would be things like exhausts etc I would also wager that the bertone body is far more rust prone the original Volvo shells - lovely looking thing and reminds me of an 80's Audi for dome reason.

Cheers guys, the more I see pics of them, the more they appeal, real Maserati Biturbo look about them too.

Will look to sign up on the forum.

I am guess as said above that good ones are rare and like hens teeth?
