Hi everyone, this is my first post.

I have just bought a 2000 V70 T5 SE, 137k miles etc, very good condition, decent history, auto with leather, all the toys which makes me think it is not an ex Police car.

Anyway bought it and picked it up from Glasgow and drove back to Yorkshire, no problems at all, so very pleased with the deal, £1500!

Have had the cam belt changed as a precaution and checked the engine oil levels and all seems fine until...

When I start and drive the car it drives perfectly for the first 15-20 minutes, the auto box shifting perfectly, the engine smooth and quiet, after a while it starts to behave weird.

It is almost like the gearbox is slipping and the power is sporadic, this happens every time the car has been running for 15-20 minutes, luckily I have only been doing short journeys recently so have got the car home. When i get out of the car after the short journey there is a burning smell. If I let the car sit for half an hour it is fine again for another 15-20 minutes!

When i got the cam belt fitted I asked a mechanic to check the gearbox oil colour and he said it was fine but I'm not convinced he has checked it!

Any ideas?

Many thanks

P.s This didn't happen when I drove it for a solid 3 1/2 hours back from Scotland!

I'd make sure there is enough oil in the box. They can slip when the oil level is low. Do a slippage test - put it in drive, left foot on the brake and and steadily increase the throttle - if it's not slipping it will rev to 2 maybe 3k and hold there steadily - if the revs start to rise then it's slipping. Do this in all gears Inc. reverse. We service loads of 850s and v70s and the auto boxes very rarely fail and slips are often cured with a flush and service. Even if it is shagged second hand units are very cheap - the box is the same in all models and not t5 specific
