As you may see I have posted a few questions about my recently purchased 52 plate V70T5. I have an interesting thing happeneing. When I pull the stem towards me the front wipers start but no water comes out. When I push away, I get washer fluid on front screen and the rear wiper starts up!!
It seems that they have been mixed up. Surley pull towards = wash/wipe front screen, push away = wash/wipe rear screen.
Any thoughts???

All I can do is confirm your thoughts I'm afraid...
pull = front wash/wipe
push = rear wash/wipe

Someone has tried to do a fix and it's gone wrong / they've wired it up wrong.

From memory - they are the same pump unit just different connections - I would start there with an avometer to see what is going on. Alas, the pump is quite well buried in the engine bay I recall.

On a five door (estate) there are two pumps. I would hazard a guess and say that the wiring to the pumps are swapped over. Hopefully the connectors are the same.

fairly confident it will be the pump,but I could be wrong,had many when ford fitted there washer pump with this fault,very rare any problems with volvos own fitment.

on the Ford pump the polarity is reversed when required for front or rear washer,but a return valve can fail in the pump and deliver water to the wrong pipe. ps the pump/s could be just on the chassis change at that year.

Sounds absoultely spot on what Nigel has said - It is a hugely common problem especially if the system has been run with too much washer fluid in it causing the valves to clog they are a pain in the arse to clear out - Its a crappy system and put in to save cash - cheaper than fitting 2 pumps
