Hi
I'm looking to buy one of these monsters. I've never owned a Volvo before, is there anything I should look for - I presume that the engine is pretty tried and tested in these cars? Are they prone to rust?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Getting quite hard to find standard and unmolested - or without starship mileage!

A Volvo dealer down south had a rare yellow one in not that long ago and it was very very expensive, mint though.

My Dad's got one, T5R estate in the yellow.

Agree that finding one with sensible mileage is very difficult, engines don't seem to have any trouble covering the milage and return good mpg (circa 27-32mpg) especially considering the newer version of this same 5 cylinder engine when fitted into the Focus ST tends to get 20-25mpg.

Nice as they are they're not really much quicker or different to drive than a standard T5 - The one to have is a manual 850R - They have a bigger TD05 turbo and a viscous coupling in the diff. (autos have the T5-R engine) The T5-R has an identical engine to a T5 but with a different ECU giving a 30odd - second over boost to increase BHP by 15 - You can easily fit this ECU to a standard T5 - Admittedly, the T5-R looks awesome but my point is don't pay through the nose expecting it to be massively quicker than a standard T5 - Some people pay silly money for them - One of my customers paid 2k for one with 200k on the clock and a completely shagged bottom end - I offered to sell him my newer much more mechanically fit T5 estate for 800quid (also faster). Needless to say he blew a hole in the block of his T5-R and is now 2k out of pocket...
