Just got a Volvo 240 GLE saloon, 90,000 miles, full history, mint leather interior, rust free metallic paint. Do they have a following or is it just another old car worth very little?

The GLT models are fast becoming very sought after - any car will have a following - 240s are great cars and reward with classic like status with out any of the associate unreliability. Sounds like you have a lovely example there just don't expect it to be worth thousands of quid in the future

I always remember Car magazine's Good, Bad and the Ugly section describing the 240 as Pros: Lasts forever Cons: Lasts forever.

I like them - they seem like they're indestructable, and look almost handsome in a functional way!

Thanks for the comments. Just got the car into the garage today. it's not been on the road for 5 years, needs 1 wiper, bonnet hinge, a small piece of bumper trim/rubber and has a slight blow on exhaust. Absolutely no rust in any of the usual places just needs a really good clean and polish then off for the MOT.

I think it is a 2.3 injection. Will post pictures when it's polished!

Nice - best engine (other than the GLT 2.3 lump which has a different camshaft) - common fault on them is the pre pump fails in the petrol tank - its basically a pump that lifts fuel from the tank - If it goes the car will still run but be sluggish as fk. There is an easy way to check - pull the fuse for it whilst the car is running - if the car bogs down you'll know it working fine. contrary to what people believe the 2.3's can haul ass pretty well

Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Lovely old bus. My first Volvo was a 240 Estate. I wish I still had it, even if it was a bit agricultural. I hope you enjoy many miles in yours.

Nice.
Is it the O/D gearbox? I prefer them!
If it has a cat on it, get shot of it - they strangle the engine something chronic.
As said by a previous poster they can haul ass - my 2.3 was quicker than my mates Mk4 Golf GTI. And it was more fun on roundabouts.

Thats a GLT not a GLE - Def a cult car and becoming V-sought after - GLT's have the 130bhp bosch injected B230 with a high lift camshaft.

I'll bite your hand off if you ever want to sell it! - looks like a total minter thumbup
