I'd always assumed that our beloved Ovlov was for life, but a friend has thrown me curve-ball by offering me their Passat wagon at a price I'd be daft to pass up on.

Ovlov is a 2000MY V40 2.0i XS - and there's no ignoring the elephant-in-the-room, she's done 218k miles.

I won't harp on that's "just run-in" or will "go on forever", but crucially she does have a Volvo engine and 'box (essentially a normally-aspirated T4).

Service-wise she has a very good history - we've owned her for nearly four years, but there's a gap of a few years where the previous owner (an RAC man) obviously did everything himself. Last year I changed the oil/filters/plugs myself (and have receipts). Apart from that, the history is complete.

A couple of months ago she had a *big* (four-figure) service at a respected Volvo specialist - new timing belt (fourth one!) and tensioners/guides, VVT actuator and pulley, and a complete brake overhaul. She's also had a recent battery, and has nearly-new Toyo Proxes all around.

Spec-wise she has practically everything - metallic (cherry red) paint, (heated, black) leather, wood trim, cruise, trip computer, air-con/climate, electric front windows, electric (heated) mirrors, roof rails, dog guard (even though we don't have a dog!), roof spoiler, cargo net, premium sound (with factory sub), alloys (15" Spectra design), sport suspension, twin headlights/clear indicators (as T4), front fogs, etc. etc.

Condition-wise she puts most 100k miles examples to shame - I'd describe it as very good generally, extremely good for it's age, and bloody amazing given the mileage. I'd get some pictures up, if it ever stops raining.

So, the big question - what's she worth? I know what she's worth to me, but as for market value I have absolutely no idea...

EDIT: MOT is until middle of June or July, can't remember which off-hand.

I doubt you will get more than a grand for it with that amount of miles and incomplete service history.

My mrs has a 2002 facelift 2.0T 150 (not T4) on 60000, full leather, full electrics, in a sought after metallic grey, and its only worth a couple of grand. It also doesn't drink any oil between services.

I'd advertise it for £800 with a view to getting around £600. Even that might be a bit optimistic though looking at other cars around that price. Bit of a shame after giving it such a big service though - is the Passat really that much better? Would you not be better off keeping the Volvo until it dies then buying a different car in a few years?

A litre of oil per 1000 miles is pretty high as well I would have thought...don't mention that in the ad!

the other month we considered trading in our year 2000 v40 2litre xi.
the volvo main dealer in Bournemouth offered us 500-700 depening upon how we paid for the 2004 v40 we bought....we instead traded in my impreza...
my v40 in metalic red has 90k, and full history...
going to run it until it drops. its not worth anything..(ie each set of tyres and service in affect writes it off...
seen some dealers asking 2k for 200,000 v40s but do they sell at that price??

paul
