XC90 Gearbox failure
Discussion
So I have an 05 XC90 with only 22,000 miles
Car has now got gearbox failure which is going to cost loads to fix (4k)
Given the low mileage do you think I would have any chance of getting any money out of Volvo?
Also how much margin do dealers build into this work - would I be better to just sell the car to the dealer?

I would be interested to hear any advice. My automatic diesel XC90 is exactly 4 years old, with about 45k on the clock. Recently the transmission slipped out of gear as the gears changed when I accelerated hard, the revs went up to 50k before the gears re-engaged with an almighty clunk. Our local Volvo garage have said that I need a new transmission costing £5k, which seems a bit steep. I am thinking of seeing how much they will offer me part exchange as I want to reduce size anyway. Any one have any experience or thoughts please?

I've been told by a Volvo master tech that the XC90's should have a gearbox change interval sticker in the windshield next to the oil change reminder, if that tells you anything.
Levity aside, as I'm sure you're very frustrated, I'd talk to the service manager at the dealership where the car was serviced, and see what can be arranged.
