Has anyone had any fouling with disc or callipers when using 16" wheels on a V50 R Design?

I was going to get some 16" steel rims for some winter tyres, but after looking at a picture of the car (waiting for delivery) the brakes look rather big on the front for 16" wheels.

Many thanks,

You should be fine, I'm pretty sure R-Design is just a design/spec pack and wouldn't include bigger brakes unlike the dedicated 'R' line of yesteryear. 16inch alloys are available on 'lesser' V50 models so unless you've got a T5, and the T5 gives you bigger brakes then you should be okay smile

Not R design but my 16" winter rims have fitted without problem on an SE with the 17".

Edited

Just to add, in Sweden the current D5 and T5 come with 17" Zaurak wheels as standard.
A few years back they came with the 16" Cursa as standard so I think you should not have a problem.

hope that helps

Sorry to hijack this slightly (and bring it back from the dead) but I'm interesting in doing the winter tyre thing.

I've got a V70 D5 (57 plate, but not current shape) with 17" wheels on and am thinking about trying some winter tyres this winter as I struggled a bit last year. Do I need to get new wheels and if so, as 16" are more plentiful & seemingly cheaper (on ebay) can I use them instead of 17's and just get a tyre with a higher profile?

Yeah, I'd go onto the configurator and spec your car but with 16" wheels and see what sizes they are, pick some up cheap on ebay, make sure they'll fit around the brakes though, they should I'd assume

Hmmm not sure tbh, he will have 302mm diameter front discs, and 300 rears.

Today they come with nothing under 17".

Pity you are a long way from me Mondayo normally or you could try my 16's.

scratchchin On Monday I'm in Rotherham but unfortunately with a car rammed full of stuff so probably no space left. (You're in Sth Yorks iirc? Edited to add, just seen Derbyshire ah well offer still open if a suitable venue available)

On the off chance I have load space for one rim, if you want you can PM me a contact and if I can manage something Monday will let you know. Likely to be a lot of hanging about going on. Lot of ifs and maybes there I know. Up to you mate.

Just looked it up...
If your discs are 305mm Dia the 16" wheels will fit, 15" will not (286mm discs).

If they are bigger ie 320mm (ish) then you need 17".
