My XC70 2.5 diesel wont start when its been sitting overnight and its cold.

The glow plugs where changed only a year ago when this problem first appeared. All summer the car has been starting ok. Now its colder the problem is back. The glow plugs are new, changed only last December. A check last week showed they are all ok.
Can anyone suggest where else the problem could be.
After the car has started there is no problem until the next morning??

Are they actually getting hot? a relay might be up the duff. Pop one out, earth it & you'll soon see if it is working or not

I have taken the glow plugs out and tried them on a spare battery and they all glowed red hot.
Then still out of the engine I plugged them into their connecting leads, earthed out the body and switched the ignition on and they glowed red hot. They all appeared to be working fine and showed no signs of being burnt on the tips.

On the Audi's (same engine) theres a common problem with leaky injector pipes, letting air in & allowing fuel to return to the tanks. So each time youu start it has no fuel. Very common problem so it would'nt surprise me if the V70 does the same.

Thanks for the ideas, I will check out the possible air leak.

The only thing that does not make sense is this only happens when its cold.

This problem first happened last dec when it got cold but its been fine all summer and now only just re-ocurred. Maybe its such a small leak that it only happens when it needs more diesel at the cold start up stage.

Update on problem:

Finally had to put car in garage. after three days of fault finding tests! They found that one of the injectors was not operating at the correct hertz frequency.
It seems the range is supposed to be between 200 to 660 hertz and this one was 909.
I was told if one fails then the ECU does not see the correct information and then wont fire the remaining injectors?
I had the one failed injector replaced, they cost £140 each, service exchange, and now it starts perfectly.
The cars only done 65k miles so I would think they should last longer than that. I hope the remaining four last longer.
