I'm after accessing some PH distributed intelligence. I have an 07 plate S80 D5 geartronic. I really like the car (last motor was an S60 D5 and loved that). I mainly use the car for motorway cruising, and long distance stuff, but with the odd cross country trip.

I find the car a little sluggish and so I'm thinking of tuning. Now the question is whether to go for something like a Tunit plug-in, roughly 200bhp or to go for something like a RICA remap. Experience chaps? Pluses and minuses?

I think my motor is a 163 motor (difficult as it's badged 2.4D, but has a silver engine cover, which I was told meant 185...). I'm sureI could find out. Anyway around 200 hopefully will give it more poke (not looking for a rocket ship!). I currently get an average of 37 mpg.

Advice welcome...

I have no D5 experience (T5 all the way here!!), but I have read favourable reports about RICA's latest version of their map here:

Thanks.....phoned a RICA distributor this afternoon. £500 gets me approx 210 bhp. Sounds good to me!

I've used CCC Technology (not for my volvo) before and he was pretty good. They can do chip tuning or boxes. Apart from him being a sound guy to use, he also drives out to you to tune the car.
On the site it quotes a 30bhp improvement for the 2.4D 163 up to 193) and 35bhp improvement for the D5 (185 up to 220). When I used him, he was also a fair bit less than 500 quid too!

Great, thanks for the reference. I think I'm going to do a bit more research and see who offers best value and support on remaps.
