HI all,

I've been having a lot of fun in my TVR over the summer, however only having two seats is annoying me, and I've had a couple of interesting 'moments' in the TVR that make me think I should quit while I'm ahead.

I've always like the C70 convertible, and notice I could pick up a 2.4T or possibly a T5 for 4/5k, which seems like a lot of car for the money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting the same thrills as the TVR, just smooth comfortable with a bit of poke and a roof that comes off!

So what are they like!

I hope the TVR crowd don't see this!

I say don't do it! The C70 convertible suffers from nasty scuttle shake and is no drivers car. Buy a cheapie daily driver and keep the TVR, you know it makes sense! Spend a few quid on a course to help you handle the Tiv when it gets 'interesting'! This is PH after all!

The c70's are great cars !

Yes the convertible does suffer from scuttle shake....but which convertible doesn't? I think it is a bit harsh saying "don't do it" !?

My wife has a T5 auto which I borrow now and again. I fitted a strut-brace and the scuttle is 60% better !

They are great comfy cars with a bit of poke....so pretty much on the button.

All in my opinon of course.

I've got a cerbera for the fun rides but bought a c70 coupe this time last year as a daily driver. not been disappointed at all, infact having bought the car for £1600 on ph, 12 months later I'm only just now having to spend any money on it! Tax, Mot & tires. Plan was to sell it last Easter but I love it.
But I've still got the cerb for when I want to let off a little steam!!

The old C70 has quite a bit of character, but it does't have much in the way of handling finesse.
Poor steering lock and scuttle shake are the main bugbears, but super comfy seats and a decent heater for winter top down motoring (along with the subtle off beat sound of the 5 cylinders) are big positives.

Top down refinement is pretty good - I drove from London to Pau (c.700 miles) solo in one go a few years back with the roof down, averaging 81mph...

They can be hustled along pretty well if you're smooth, but agressive driving makes the front feel disconnected from the back.

I'd have one as well as a Tiv, but could never consider it as a replacement.

I can't believe that I am reading this thread! How can you POSSIBLY give up a TVR for a VOLVO??? I speak as a Griffith owner (after an S3 and a Chimaera) and last car was a V50 D5 Auto (not the best choice I have made). In fact I have a V70 D5 for 6 months ... the V50 basically died, to the point that the lease co didnt want to go with the hastle; they have loaned me the V70 til my Audi A4 S-line arrives in 6 months - but I digress. My sister has a C70 convertible, and as a woman's car, it's ok. As a TVR replacement? I suggest that you consider a gender change!
