Headlamp wipers - S80
Discussion
Any DIY guys out there can offer any advice.
The other day, went to activate the screen wash, nowt, thought bottle was empty. Lifted bonnet, almost full, sussed out the 15 amp fuse had gone, changed it out and worked fine.
About 10 days later went again, I figured out that the same fuse works the headlamp wipers, so as the car was going in for a service, had them checked out.
The garage told me that the same fuse does indeed work the headlamp wiper motors, and both were shot, replacement would be around £600.00
Having them unwired was not an easy option, apparantly you have to take the bumper to do this.
So question is, do you have to take the bumper off to do this? and is £600.00 realistic, I do know that the dealer in Aberdeen is rather high on labour costs? maybe a one man garage may be the answer me thinks. Or can you unplug them without removing the bumper.

Further to my post, some questions guys, having had a look myself, I think I have managed to unplug the wipers, when I say think, I havn't tinkered under a bonnet for over 30 years, but common sense prevails.
Does this look like the right plug to be undone, it certainly seems to go to the motor.
And this looks like the back of the motor
Last one
Looks like I have to remove this panel to get to the motor bolts, the panel with the headlamp wiper protruding, and the reflector on, if so, how to you get it off, do you prise it off? any ideas, or just buy a Hayes manual, I certainly don't want to pay Arnold Clark £600 for the job when I can pick up spare motors for £90 used or £200 new.
Garage told me even to unplug the wiper motors needed a bumper removal?

Once you've figured it out can you do one on my S60 please?
Common fault and a costly one. £180 is the cheapest I've seen for a new motor.
I have heard the full bumper has to come off and headlight out to get at it.
You may be right, but I have a sneeky feeling just the bitty above the bumper with the reflector and motor shaft poking out has to come out? someone must know the answer, PH's know everything there is to know!Common fault and a costly one. £180 is the cheapest I've seen for a new motor.

This provides a little more info.
