Currently got an Alhambra as the family wagon, got 3 kids eldest 6 and another due in September. Never been happy with the Alhambra as a driving experience but can't argue with the fact it moves us all about ok. How does an Xc90 fair as a regular 6 seater and occaisional 7?

Some of the interior pics online make the rear seats look pretty cramped. The safety aspect of the XC90 also makes it appealing compared to the Alhambra.

Anyone use theirs for more that 5 seats regular offer comment?

Cheers

I;ve got one very good cars would highly recommend them, economical car mid 30s, reliable. Just check for the 4 wheel drive system is working, know fault and 1.2k to fix. Hand for kids in mine for over 4 hours with no complaints.

Cheers, went and looked at one yesterday - out of my price range unfortunatley, they are much bigger inside than pictures would have you believe. Chap there though said steer clear of Petrols, in my mind though as we don't do alot of miles it may be a way for a bargain - although they don't all seem to be much cheaper than D5's!

We have a diesel XC and its a great car, we have 4 kids and have the volvo packed to the gunnells very often.

Replaced a Mercedes ML which was by far the worse car we have had.....and I have have a few.

Petrol ones drink but the diesel returns 30+ MPG most of the time.

I would recomend one so much so we may get another one a bit newer (ours is 2003) next year.

An option you may not of thought of is a 05 Nissan Pathfinder, good value at around 10k & if reg before 23/03/06 will be £210 road tax. Plenty big enough & ok not as luxurious as a XC90 but prob better value.

(No I don't have one for salebiggrin)

Anyway just a thought for you.

Cheers.

On a real plus we have had the volvo serviced in a small garage that I have used for many years to MOT my old Subaru and it was under half the price of the Volvo main dealers who 'used' to look after the Volvo and they used all original Volvo parts.

Volvo state that the rearmost seats are only suitable for people up to 5'6". Not an issue for you now, but my 12 year old is already that height. Some other big people carriers (Galaxy, Espace) have the same NCAP rating so 4x4 does not = safer. If you do want a 4x4, the Subaru Tribeca does the same thing, with more kit, for less money, although some don't like the looks (v.similar to a Porsche Cayenne)and it's petrol only.

My missus drives a V50D Sport which is into volvo for a service tomorrow - 30k service.
I've managed to organise a days test drive in a XC90 D5. Owned my V50 since new (2006) and never had one thing go wrong *touch wood* so looking to stick with the brand.

From a post above, just been checking out the Pathfinder. Looks pretty cool actually.

Pathfinder has a v.hard ride and the pick-up it's based on (Navarra) had one of the worst Euro-NCAP scores ever (the cabin split on impact IIRC). Also seem to remember reading about manifold problems - check out Honest John if you're still interested.

Having had the XC90; that's the car for me or should I say the wife.
Volvo want £16500 to change to a new XC90 from a 2006 V50D Sport with 30k miles.

Not sure if that's a good deal or not but Broadspeed are offering new XC90's at 25% off. Might be worth a punt.
