I'll give you my experiences of the V70R, as it's near enough the same thing, and my mate with a V70 T5.
Do a search on V70R on this forum, or look down the page a bit, and you'll find plenty of info on them - 4wd and Geartronic is the big thing to check, specifically has it had it's Angle-Gear replaced under warranty.
As for an R or a T5... well, the R gives you clever and immensely capable suspension, more power, and a astonishing grip. It's rare, and has a few nice little touches, and bloody great brakes.
However, it's so relaxing to drive that you'll rarely drive it quickly or use the chassis to it's fullest extent - probably content to mooch about at 60mph wondering why you bothered with such a silly engine and why didn't you just get a D5 and have done with it.
My mate, with his T5, says exactly the same thing in reverse - he moochs about in his at 65mph, and then curses himself for not getting the R when the mood takes him to drive like a tit.
The fuel consumption is pretty shocking in both of them, so it's really just a case of personal preference and likely running costs.
On balance though, taking into account how cheap both cars are, the S60R is an absolute steal.
