Any thoughts on this chaps? In slow traffic yesterday, constant start stop.

Holding the car on the footbrake brake, but in D, the engine would start hunting up and down. Almost stalling, then back up to about 2k rpm. It wasn't too bad to begin with, but got worse as we got towards home.

Approached a roundabout, the revs dropped to normal idle speed as normal and then the car stalled.

I restarted, and the car stalled straight away. I had to start the car in neutral, whilst giving it some beans, then select D and hope the revs did't drop before I was up to speed. But if I came off the throttle and allowed the revs to drop like normal, the car would stall.

ECM showed a DTC was set (the car doesn't say what code it was). Check engine light didn't come on. No other warnings. Called out the AA. He plugged in his lappy and although it detected the car, it didn't recognise any fault code. He then got it to clear down unrecognised codes, and the car was back to normal ish, and I got home. AA chappy said that happens quite often (not the stalling, the code thingy).

This morning, I started the car and the engine light flashed 7 times then went out. Now it's all back to normal. ARGH!

Could be an ECM issue, idle control valve, or the ETA. Could it be related to being in traffic for nearly an hour, and something getting too hot perhaps?

Now, being a little concerned that it could happen again, I've booked it into my local specialist to take a look. Except the codes aren't there now as the AA chap cleared them and it now says ECM READY. Not sure if they'll be able to work out what happened.

Just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone, and if so, what happened?

Cheers.
