I've recently bought a V70 R. Its a 98 p1 version. Are you looking at more the newer type?

I've only had it a week or so, so i'm not really in a good position to advise on ownership just yet, though its definately a great big spacious, practical car with excellent comfy seats, lots of kit and of course a lovely kick from that engine!

There's quite a few owners forums around, all of which have cars advertised regularly on them and contain loads of useful info.

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/

If you're after an older one like mine and i can help with any info, give me a shout! biggrin

Its Nautic Blue, which is a dark blue colour. I really wanted a Saffron (Orange) one, but i couldn't find a good example in Orange and with decent mileage. A lot of the ones advertised have 150k + on them! I don't honestly think that's a bad thing, its just i wanted something with less mileage etc.

Auto trader and Pistonheads clasifieds are good places to look. I sourced mine from PH classifieds.

I've owned 2, one 2wd (series1) one 4wd(series2).Series 1 was a lot more 'rough round the edges' series 2 lot more comfortable - best seats ive sat in, and its more predictable with 4wd but not as quick as 2wd and not as much fun! All in all both good comfortable cars, reasonable running costs and an under-rated car IMO.

Cheers for the replies guys. Im guessing i shouldn't touch this one at the bottom of the page with a barge pole because of the AWD 'converted' to 2wd.

I am tempted by the colour alone though..! biggrin

Will ask the forums aswell.

FYI : I have a 2004 S60R , and have done 100k in it

Speed : Very Nice and pleasant
Braking : Reasonable
Handling : in comfort - pathetic : Sport - reasonable : Race - bone jarring but puts a smile on your face for 5 minutes (before your back gives out)

Positives : lovely cruiser to do the commute (sport mode) , can overtake as necessary , brilliant (in fact i cannot find a car to touch this for getting to work every day and i have been looking for months)

Negatives : Cost of ownership is astronomical : Chews brake pads and discs every two months , had pretty much every mechanical part replaced , everytime it goes in for a service its avearge bill is £1250 the most has been £2500 , and it has regular in between trips too

Summary : Uniqueness, great car, could do with better handling at the front, perfect for long trips, perfect for oil barons or volvo service departments

Allblackdup, your R wasn't from the Brighton area by any chance was it?

2000 V70R Laser Blue owner here.

Bought the car 6 years ago.

ETM replacement, about 3 years ago, cost £550, I believe its a £220 repair now.
Had the Cat replaced under manufactures warranty, about 5 1/2 years ago.
That's the highlights.

The V70R is more than fast enough for every day driving, LOADS of space, plenty of kit, great sound system, excellent seats and have that lovely 5 pot burble.

Mines got the twin exit exhausts which I believe is a later MY thing, but its worth trying to find a later one just for that, as it looks much cooler imo.

If you do end up with one, its worth giving Don @ Kalmar-Union a ring, he worked the MTE magic on mine and its a rocket ship now.

Was this a remap on the standard ecu or a replacement? what sort of gains did you get?

You motor is a sex machine thumbup - If I had the cash...

In fairness the 850R is a simpler and IMHO, better car - That said both the 850 and V70R's are superb motors

Very nice car, but more mod'd than i like.

Still good luck! Have you tried Volvoforums or T5D5.org?

Have those wheels been painted/'furbed a different colour or is that the 'Anthracite' colour?

Cheers,

Stedman.
