2.0D V50 chip advice needed
Discussion
Hi all,
I have brought a V50 2.0D to run around in, which i am more than impressed with. I'm averaging 42mpg with steady driving. i did think it would return more but reading up on the new 2.o diesels they all seem to be thirsty.
I am thinking of chipping the engine for a bit more power and possibly better mpg. Has anybody had this engine chipped and was it worth it? Are there companies with a good reputation and which are the ones to avoid?
Thanks in advance Ben.

I've heard Kalmar union mentioned on this forum quite a few times, most people seem to be quite impressed with them, Personally, Ive not used them, so can't really comment.
Isn't there a greenbox or whatever they are called available for the 2.0D? Companies such as DTUK supply them, and are relativly easy to fit, and remove, should a problem arise.

Kalmar union (Don) is your man
I cant speak for the diesel engines but I had my 850 T5 (petrol) remapped by him last year (MTE Stage one) and it totaly transformed the feel of the car,it made it alot smoother and gave massive gains in midrange power and torque also improved the fuel economy and gave the car slightly lower emisions on the MOT in january too
all in all it was the best £xxx I have ever spent on my car
my insurance premium only went up by £26 too, so for the gains it was A bargain

V50 2.0D.... I'm averaging 42mpg with steady driving.... they all seem to be thirsty.
Woeful on Volvo's design part - less to do with your driving.
Know very little about the V50 2.0D but would hazard a guess it is Eu IV compliant. If so, would lay money, herein is your problem.
An ECU modification will generally give you a slight increase in MPG - there are many good "tuners"that look at Volvos but do not go e-bay route and inform the insurers - I paid an extra £80 on my last D5, but current one is within warranty, so am leaving it alone (for now )

volvo owners club forum is pretty good http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/index.phpthe other ones i'm on are Volvo performance model based D5,T5,R etc... of those volvospeed.com and T5D5.org are prob the best
