In gear auto T5
Discussion
Hi All,
Took the c70 T5 to kent and back which is a good 180 mile round trip.
on this occasion a couple of other cars tried to exert their authority with the old flash of the lights....when not really necessary !!
The outcome was very positive for me.
I was fully loaded 4 passengers and full boot......the old girl felt very capable....ok not up against anything exotic but the usual 4 & 6 cyclinder exec cars !!
Does anyone know how these T5 autos (245bhp) compare with other with the main rivals.....I my feeling is that when already moving i.e over 30 mph these surprise much bigger cars !!
IceBoy
PS...all in my opinon !

In its day, when the T5 first came out in the 850 it could out accelerate a Ferrari 348tb in the gears from 50-70 - I find mine is tricky to get off the line due to wheel spin - (I have a 280bhp conversion in my 850) but on the move I can keep up with M3's S4's and the like - I have a mitusbishi TD05 turbo to fit to it too I'm hoping for around 320bhp, any more than that and i'll be putting a set of boots on every few months!
I know the T5 is brisk but can it really keep up with an M3 ??? E46 that is ?!?!?
My brother has 2002 M3 and I have driven it many many times....although we have never been on the open road together in the T5 & M3......
IMO the M3 would be very very comfortable in any situation against the T5.....mind you if you catch a M3 in the wrong gear...... the old squirt an go of the T5(auto) will make it extremly difficult for the M3 to catch-up??
All in my opinon though...I have yet to sample a MTE or RICA T5 auto.....

Happy New Year !

M3 is in a different league, you might 'catch one out' if it is in the wrong gear but it is a much faster car.My brother has 2002 M3 and I have driven it many many times....although we have never been on the open road together in the T5 & M3......

Remapped, the T5 might stand more of a chance once rolling, but the M3 is still quicker.
The S4 (Bi Turbo) is a lot quicker than a standard T5 despite not having that much more bhp, remapped I'm not so sure.
(I've had 4 T5's so far and counting, and driven a lot more both auto/manual and standard/remapped!).
Y2Blade,
Will be going the MTE route but I need a 36k service first...even though there is only 15k on the clock !!
Then a strut brace and MTE........In the meantime if anyone knows where I can get a good service without my stealer taking advantage of me...would be helpful ?
I live in Maidenhead, so 30 mile radius is ok !
IceBoy
PS I'm on my 3rd Volvo:
480 Turbo (back in the day)
854 T5 auto (In 2001)
Now the lovely c70 T5 auto - 2005

Besides off the mark its pretty slow - too much wheel spin but its the in gear punch - my remap runs higher boost for longer and remember the S4 is ridiculously heavy - 850's are suprisingly light in comparrison - oh and it was my mates E36 M3 not the newer ones! - I have to conseed and say it defo would lose to an E46 or the v8 for that matter - RICA chipped motors are genuinely fast though - The conversion to have is by a Swedish Company called Autotec -you're looking down the nose of 500bhp - but all through the front wheels - Fun, but totally insane - This one's well known (550bhp) - I'd sum it up as "A handful"
