Evening all,

After a recent motorbike accident I'm looking at a track car, but something a bit different. At the mo I'm thinking a BMW 238 or an Volvo 850T5 estate. I'm doing this on a tightish budget. Both seem like a good idea but I've a hankering for for the 850 after seeing it in touring cars, and it'll be an excellent Q-car.

My intention will be to strip and cage so I'm trying to figure out what kind of weight i could get a 850 T5 down to as it's a portly ~1450kgs.

Any views on this idea appreciated.

Cheers
Ben

Sorry, I have no idea - but there are a few well informed folks over on http://forums.t5d5.org/ who might be able to help.

Don from Kalmar Union lurks both here and there so he might be along shortly with some info too smile

As has been mentioned, I would definitely suggest registering on wwe.t5d5.org because some guys there have just done precisely what you're proposing, i.e. bought themselves an 850 to be converted into a track car. There's quite a few guys there with some experience of track driving so they can certainly give you some tips. Don's Kalmar Union Britcar S60 racer I think pegs the scales at around 1200kg (but still has the factory wood trim on the door cards! laugh), so you should be able to get a stripped out 850 under that.

I have a '96 S70 T5 which although bought new by me way back when is now a stripped out, but road legal, track car.

You can allways contact me don@kalmar-union.com also worth a look at www.t5r.org where the owner of a T5R who is a visitor here has documented his work on his own car.

Regards, Don.
