OMG just had a little play with our Volvo XC60 Demo car and tried out the city safety feature. We have got an inflatable car which is what you are attempting to crash into.

Basically drive the XC60 at the object at 10mph or less and look away and the car will automatically stop for you. It graunches like when the ABS of my car kicks in but it does stop the car dead.

Really quite alarming to actually deliberately try to drive into an object and I could not force myself to look away as I was told to do. Fun though and very impressive.

What will they think of next?

City Safety is excellent - if a little unnerving!

I haven't tested it using a real car as the target yet...

I was picking my car up from it's first service last Friday and the staff were having a play! Seeing that I was interested, they offered for me to have a go...

First run I crashed!! It braked but not enough and bumped the bouncy car forward a foot or so. Second go it worked well. Not sure what happened on the first go, but still impressive anyway biggrin

More than likely you were doing more than 10mph in which case it will apply some braking but not sufficent to stop you.

I wouldn't have said I was doing over 10mph, as I was geing cautious due to their showroom being just in front of the inflatable i was aiming at yikes Worked well the second time though, when if anything i was going a bit faster! Definitely see it saving a few shunts. On another note, I did think the interior was lovely, in particular the dash.
