Flushing Oil

Hi

I have a 13 year old 480 which I bought 6 months ago and intend to service soon (myself - first time with a spanner too)

It has a full service history to date but other than that I don't really know what sort of condition the engine internals are in - I am therefore a bit unsure about using flushing oil to clean the internals out. I have heard it can do wonders for an old engine or that it can cause more problems than it solves.

Any advice to a newbie home mechanic wannabe?
