V70 R awd 250 bhp 1998 model

Hi
I have no experience of the AWD model (mine is 2wd), but I think the AWD system *can* be troublesome.
They are quick cars, I think they tow well, and considering their size they seem to handle ok (with good suspension & tyres).
You could browse these forums for common problems;

I think the earlier poster is being a little polite.
Those earlier AWD cars do cost a lot of money once the system ages without exception.
Best avoided in my view, get a front wheel drive T5 or 'R' with a good history and you wont regret it.
You should remember that the Auto 'R's of that period were a bit of a snare in that they did not have the higher powered 'R' engine but the lower powered engine from the concurrent T5's.
Fine cars however, just avoid the AWD's.

PS. I suppose you could consider an AWD provided that you had copies for all the substantial bills for the work that a previous owner had undertaken in respect of the transmission.

Hi, you must have all four tyres within a few millimetres of wear, otherwise the transmission can be damaged. There is a large amount of information on R AWDs on the VOC forum if you do a search.
Also using the standard space saver can wreck the transfer box! Very costly!Sounds like some of you have had real bad luck.
I have had my 2000 V70R AWD Laser Blue for the past 6 years with no such problems.
The only problems that I have experienced are a replacement ETM and 5 coil packs on this car, so not too bad really.
I have made use of the space saver wheel with no problems.
I have owed a number of T5's previously and as recently as this summer but would highly recommend the AWD system from my experiences it simply out performs a standard FWD model in every respect.
