Hello to you all.
I was looking at a V70 Diesel (140) (around 2002 MY and with 150k miles) on Autotrader recently and there was a comment about a £1700 fix which had been done on a 'common engine fault'. Does anybody know of such a fault on these cars, or other major faults that can occur? Are the other engine types any better/worse?
Thank you.

These have an Audi 2.5 Tdi lump, they do suffer a timing/balancer shaft chain issue at higher miles 150-200k ish, Its a major job indeed & may well be what your on about. It does'bt often result in a failure but you do get a harshness to the engine which will need fixing at some point.

Its a much better car than the Audi equivelant!!

I assume the engines are the same in all powers of diesels (eg D5 etc) but with just different mapping etc?

They changed engines at some point in the model line up and yr...from 140 bhp audi 5 pot engine to the Volvo own engine @ 164 or 163 bhp.

There was then a D5 engine @ 184 (which I have)....later on.

If its the V70 140 Audi engine, I used to have an 850 tdi and it was fairly bullet proof, bar the comment posted about the belts etc.

Thought the Audi 2.5 was a 6-cylinder and the Volvos were 2.4 5-cylinder anyway?

Earlier A6 Tdi were 5 pots, later ones are V6 & don't share the same eco miser credentials as the first ones.

I think the 5cyl engine is still used in 2.5 VW Touareg.
