V70 - 00 to 07 vs new model
Discussion
Morning all,
Cheap lease agreement for my E-class estate is coming to an end, so faced with the prospect of having to get a large estate for something more like real-world prices am looking at either an 07/57 old model V70 (prob 2.4 diesel or D5 if an unmissable bargain) or stretching a fair bit to get an ex-demo new model 2.0d (with leather, winter pack, bluetooth, parking sensors).
Has anyone had experience of both models and would be able to say whether the new model is sufficiently better to justify the extra expense (in purchase price - running costs for the 2.0d do seem to be a lot cheaper...). Will probably register at the Volvo forums as well, but thought I might get a more 'warts and all' marque-agnostic set of feedback from here :-)
Cheers

Some bargain V70 D5s out there just now (previous model)...
I just picked mine up last week and loving it so far. I think its trade in time for alot of people just now so if your looking for more bang for your money the old model is the one to go for. We got a fantastic deal on a 06 plate 185 D5 with 50k on the clock.
Its a big old car and I would be worried about the 2.0 coping even in the new car, but havent driven one to say much more.
I have to say the interior of the new model is very nice tho !

Personally I think the interior of the new V70 is much nicer, but I'm still not 100% on the exterior...nothing major, I just prefer the look of the old one (mine!)
I think a late old shape V70 would make a nice used buy. You should be able to pick a D5 up which is nicely loaded for reasonable money now.

Great, thanks - all useful stuff. Not a D5 but have my eye on a '57 plate 2.4 diesel, only the 163bhp version but a rather smart example of the 'Sport' run-out edition. Excellent reduction on new, and the thought of a RICA upgrade is at the back of my mind...
Thats the version I have! They did it in 2.4D and D5 and only had black and navy blue...with the lovely diamond cut alloys. It's a cracking car and has everything I need...bar bluetooth and ipod connector. Are you buying it "as new" or used? I'm probably going to be selling mine in the next few months, so I'd be interested in how much it is?
You can "upgrade" the D5 too, there is a company up north I use for these things...163 up to 193 and 185 up to 220.
I cracking choice, whichever engine you get
Sorry for delayed response, the Sport I was looking at was £16k for about 18k miles on a '57 plate. Was in wicked red though?
Anyhow, drivethedeal came up with a bloody good price for a new manual 2.0d SE Lux so have gone for that instead. Should be getting it mid-Sep. Judging from a test drive it's not going to be earth-shatteringly fast but smooth and v comfortable. Will update with first impressions :-)
