never noticed that piston heads has a volvo section before.....

anyhoo, im a closet fan of volvos and have had a few, including a three cylinder 240 estate (bought of ebay for 152 quid, it was either the volvo or pay 350 to hire a van for one weekend, so i figured that if it lasted a week i was still quids in) that towed my mini race car around the uk (it did over 3000 miles and never missed a beat, was fine once it got to 60, but hills where a struggle. one valve was bent and bar the erratic tick over (the exhaust used to wag like a happy dogs tail!) it ran like a trooper, ive also had a mint 240 saloon that came of ebay for 32 quid, one new (well, borowed of the estate!) ignition module later and it fired up and gave a mate of mine 12 months free motoring.

ive been running around in a auto vw sharan thanks to a nasty car accident, but decided to buy a cheapish manual estate car to try and ease my clutch leg into working a bit better.

handily my brother knew someone with a 1998 v40 estate that was for sale cheap. i bought it unseen and it was delivered today.

its great!, metallic blue (with some really bad keying marks thanks to the previous owners ex-wife!), full leather etc etc. it needs a good poliah and the engine has a bit of an erratic tick over (bit like old times really!) but it drives beautifully.

its got six months mot, and the cost?

£200 quid!

bargain!

im well chuffed with it.

had a good sunday, fixed the erratic idle, simply took the idle valve off, cleaned it in thinners and refitted it!. gave it a polish which improved it a bit, the passenger sides a mess thanks to a load of key marks.

drives great!

and no prizes for spotting it has a set of saab 9000 hubcaps, i had them 'in stock' smile

small update.

1 x volvo v40 - 200 quid
1 x orange side marker - 12 quid
1 x 6 months tax (what ever it cost)
2 x wiper blades - 10 quid

takes it for an mot having done nothing to it..... (it turned out to have a shorter mot than my brother claimed - the toerag!)

....and.....

.....it passed!!!

result!!! cloud9

heres to (all been well) a cheap years motoring!

and it averages 34 mpg daily, or 40 mpg on a 80 run
