Hi all,

Just bought a 740 GLE wagon for my dialy hack and lugging my tools about to work etc.

Obviously and old cheap car has a few issues, so I thought I'd ask here before I go digging about.

1) How much oil do I need to order for a change? Its the 2.3
2) Are they cam chain or belts?
3) The odometer doesn't work. Everything esle on the binnacle does, just not the odo, so is it best to get a new binnacle from a breaker rather than chase faults?

Cheers all,

Ed

1) out of a 5 litre bottle, i think i had around 1 litre left in the bottom by the time i had re-filled the car with oil smile

2) The engine has a cambelt. I think the B230E is a non interference engine, although i stand to be corrected/

3) Get one from a breaker. Your lucky its just the odometer. The fuel gauge is usually the gauge that fails the most!

B230E engine is pretty bulletproof. I paid 100 quid for my car nearly 2 and a half years ago, and 20,000 miles later, its still going just fine, the only breakdown being a bust radiator hose (few quid to replace). running costs have been limited to general servicing, few tires and an exhaust backbox biggrin

Tan leather rocks too biggrin Mine is tan. Im pretty mint condition apart from the usual headlining issues.

If your fuel guage works, hold onto it for dear life!! I'd be inclined to put up with no odo!

The early binacles can be different (but not always) to the later ones. (think theres about 4 types) Thats typical volvo non standardisation for you, so when at the scrappy you need to check the connectors are the same.
