Try searching for gearbox on the S60/V70 forum on http://www.volvoforums.org.uk.

Generally though, if it still works I wouldn't spend 3k. Try new transmission fluid and then work up to the actuators and valves mentioned on the volvo forum.

normally the gearbox suffers from a faulty solenoid,depends on what fault code is stored in the ecu,auto box specialist should be able to fix for about £700.
