Im posting this on behalf of my dad who has had his R Reg volvoe V70 T5 estate for 5 years, it has been faultless - until now. the car has covered 100,000 miles and hads been full serviced.
Last week however the engine/fuel management light (apprears like a green lmada symbol) came on and the car started running rough and then failed to start all together. The car has been at a local garage for a few days now and they can not get to the bottom of the problem. They say the fueling is good and so is the spark, so it should start and run but it doesnt.banghead

Can anyone shed any light on the subject ?

Cheers
Gary

I suggest that they read the fault codes first, if they haven't already done so. If they can't (due to lack of diagnostics equipment) then I suggest you take your car elsewhere, ie a Volvo specialist.

IMHO I think its a faulty O2 or Lambda Sensor, overscheduling fuel and flooding the engine.
I have noticed my V70 doesnt like over fuelling prominent when its started cold moved in/out drive and not run for very long.
Have to floor that pedal and keep turning over till it fires. Rare but happens and thats with a functioning O2 sensor - oh christ, tempted fate now !

The garage the car is at have all the correct diagnostic equipment but cant seem to find the fault, I will suggest the faulty sensor, and fingers crossed!!

Cheers for the help - hopefully it will be fixed soon!

hi gary, what fault code have they mentioned ? it should give a good indication of the fault,a faulty oxy sensor will not be the fault for non start, will run fairly well with average values.

Pull the plug out of the MAF sensor & see how it runs then.

Could also be the Camshaft position sensor (check fault code), easy to DIY replace.

Could also be the fuel pump relay circuit.

(I've had all of these go & they produce very similar faults)
