960 Turbo V8 project looming, any sugestions?
Discussion
Watcha people, after Xmas I intend to pull the straight six engine and auto box out of my 91' 960 estate and replace it with a 3.9 Ltr turbo charged Rover V8 and manual 5 speed box ( mainly because I have the combo lying dormant in storage) and will be using it as my tow car to take me, a pal or two, some tools etc. and a car or bikes to track days. Anybody know of anyone that has done similar or has any useful info to impart before work commences?

Good morning Wayne,
If you get yourself onto www.volvoclub.org.uk and post up you will find some others who have been there already in the UK.

Hi GTwayne, saw your post on putting a turbo charged Rover V8 into your Volvo, could you tell me what turbo chargers and ECU you are using? I have a MK3 Capri with a fuel injected Rover V8 and have often thought about turbo charging it, fabricated manifolds and installation parts would not be too much of a problem and are fairly cheap to do but the cost of after market ECU puts me off. Often thought about modifying the standard injection system with some sort of device to supply extra fuelling when on boost not sure if this is possible or how well it would work. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Offroader

Yo Mark, how you doin'?
I have 1 X single Garret T4 (diesel spec) turbo charger and am using a standard 3.9 ECU with 2 X supplementary injectors triggered independently by Hobs switches at a pre set boost pressure. I will also be using water and methanol 50/50 mix to help keep detonation at bay. This is a tried and tested set up that I was running in a Mk 2 Escort about 10 years ago and without an intercooler was seeing around 12 PSI of boost. Very basic, especially with what is available by way of programmable ECU's these days but cheap, reliable and it does work.
