Chipping the D5

Anyone know if the new 185bhp D5 can be chipped ?
Other options include Superchips (www.superchips.co.uk), the Dragon Diesel Performance tuning box (www.volvoclub.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=22260), Upsolute (www.upsolute.com) and Powerklick (www.volvoclub.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=17251&highlight=Powerklick)
I believe Power Engineering (London Superchips) have done back to back tests with their software upgrade and that of another tuning company, on the same D5, so its worth giving them a call for more information on that too.
Let us know how you get on.
I regret that I still cannot offer an MTE software package for the S60 D5, but I do have a copy of those PE runs with a Superchip package back to back with the Rica in Holland.
With the Rica installation it tracked the Superchip to arround 130bhp at 2200 rpm but dropped away suddenly to track the Superchip arround 12bhp lower to 3750 rpm where it pulled to a max 204bhp at 4180, the Superchip dropping away after its peak of 190 at 3750.
I would have expected the Superchip to have shown the Rica a clean pair of heels on the road.
I can post a copy of the graphs if you pm or email me with your address.
Regards, Don.Norchi.

Instead of gracefully admiting that you don't have tuned diesel software, you decide to then have a dig at one of your competitors! How pathetic. Grow up!

That post annoyed me a bit, aswell. The majority of his posts seem to either advertise his own products, or have a dig at others. I think we could do without both.

Is there anything wrong with a commercial party advertising their products, on a forum which they subscribe to for advertising rights?

surely thta depends on the rules of posting that the advertiser will have signed up to when registering for the forum.
Doesn't excuse the critising of the compteition though in any case, out of order IMO!

When I say we could do without both, what I mean is, I wouldn't buy something from a company that feels the need to criticise a competitor.
Good evening Fid and Smartie,
I quite understand your own positions on your opinion of my earlier post, but, not wishing to be a pedant would point out that I have no product to offer for the current upgrading of the software for Volvo's D5 engines.
However, I do not believe that the reference to a third party's comparison of two competing products is in any way enreasonable as my business has nothing to gain from such a post, far from it, the original enquirer has everything to gain from the passing of such independant information. I have offered to pass on hard copy of that information.
Gentlemen, I would however ask that you check the search facility on this site for the word SPODE. You will find that the poster who withholds any personal details makes contributions to this forum that either promote the UK distributor of Rica product or their sub dealer to the south west of London, or makes contributions that are fundamentally abusive to others.

That single sentence above is what you should have written in the first place! Or possibly not bothered posting at all if you have nothing to offer.
As the owner of not one but both the cars that Power engineering tested for me (and for some reason don kalmar union seems to have a copy of without consultation of myself); some details about the runs must be made clear:
- They were not back to back as he suggests but done on completely different days.
- They weren't the same car but were both Volvo S60 D5's of different model years and very different mileages (the RICA car having covered some 82,000 miles and the 'other' car having only covered 12,000 miles and being a much newer car)
- Only 1 run was carried out for each car and there are breaks in the curves.
Not to mention why the test runs actually took place which was to try and work out if the 'other' software could be modified to keep up with the RICA product!
As one of the few people that can say they have driven many Volvo S60's with a variety of aftermarket maps (RICA, BSR PPC and Superchips amongst others) I can confirm the RICA software is my personal favourite.
And yes, before anyone replies saying that my views are biased because of my affiliation with RICA, these runs were done a while ago when we were deciding who's software to become a distributor for.
The RICA software in question was the 198bhp remap as advertised by RICA at the time, the fact that it achieves 204bhp can show one of two things, either the data collected was inaccurate (quite possible) or that RICA have understated the likely output of the remap (the subject of many threads on a variety of forums). In any case, the RICA Sports Remap available for the same price as the standard RICA gives around 212-215bhp and considerably more low end torque. If none of these remaps appeal to you, rest assured that RICA can create a custom remap for you personally. How many aftermarket tuners offer that?
Finally, anyone seriously considering software remaps in the London area is welcome to drive any of our demonstrators and decide for themselves. Too much thread-jacking on every internet forum, not enough honest discussion. Shame on those involved!

Good evening Fid,
It is possible that you are just making the occasional visit to this Volvo section and feel like making your own considered judgments from a distance, however, if you are indeed the owner of a Volvo considering making some power or performance modifications you would learn a great deal by visiting www.volvoclub.org.uk where some of the allusions to integrity, open discussion etc have been aired in great, if not tedious, detail....well moderated though.
You might then form a truly informed and balanced view of those, like myself, who are active in the rather narrow but competative Volvo performance market.
best regards, Don.Norchi.

I have just formed a truly informed and balanced view, which is this: I think you need to see a specialist.

Personally I have used RICA on a non diesel and was very impressed, I have used Superchips in the past once on a non Volvo and it was crap, prefered the standard map but thats in no way a comparison.
The site that Don mentions is good for knowledge, however is extremely biased against RICA. Personally I dont use that site anymore as anything you say that doesnt agree with what goes on their you just get a torrant of abuse.

This is total nonsense as we have many members who have the RICA. You are airing your own assumption that is not based on any facts at all. We had a period when the marketing techniques used by one organisation were causing issues and now that has been resolved there are no more problems.
Please get your facts correct before passing criticism. As far as we are concered it's a big world and big enough for all of us to co exist in a friendly manner.

Aftershock was stating his opinion, and quite rightly IMHO. He's perfectly entitled to critise a forum if he has a bad experience there. And I agree with him too. There are still people on the VOC that persist in being anal. Just read some of the comments that "Chow" writes on the oil thread as an example. And why does the shite on the VOC keep spilling over here anyway? I don't think people on this forum want to hear it.
When you think about it, your post here emphasizes Aftershocks point even more!!!
