Buying advice - C70 Coupe
Discussion
I've a shortlist (getting shorter) for my next daily commuter and a C70 Coupe is looking like a good choice.
Can anyone offer any advice with regard to what model (2.5, 2.5 T5, 2.5 T5 GT etc) and what they are like to live with regarding fuel consumption and general performance and garage bills and common faults?
Many thanks

my other half had a C70T5 for 3 years - did 90K miles in it with few issues
Fuel not too bad - about 25mph avg.
Had a couple of probs with a door switch which was replaced under warranty...that was it
they like to eat front tyres - every 15K miles or so
other than that they are fine - comfy, quick, lots of toys
Id get a 2.3 T5 GT ...great VFM now too

no one will come near you on a straight road!
...but on a twisty one you might struggle. You can forgive the wheelspin and power understeer in a front-driver with that much power, but the one I drove felt very uncomfortable in high-speed bends. Seemed to grip OK, just didn't inspire confidence.

p.s you should get 24-25mpg.

LOL - yes that was with 99% motorway work
In all seriousness, I think the C70 Coupe is one of those classic shapes (especially in a dark colour) that will not date, so I guess a bit of a future classic. The only issue I have with them is that after driving the newer V70's the old 850 style switchgear and stalks do seem rather old-fashioned. If you can live with that then get a T5 (the GT was a styling excercise not a power thing) and enjoy it! Rich...
Go for a coupe with the T5 preferably, if not any of the other turbo engines are still a great choice, just avoid the non turbo ones.
When you get one you MUST fit a Volvo strut brace to the front end, the difference this makes is shocking for only £70 and should have been a standard fit.
