The sunroof in my second gen XC90 has stopped 'sliding'. It will tilt fine, and the motor appears to be working fine it just won't slide when the button's pressed.

Anyone had a similar problem / fix?

Maybe.
A few years back the sunroof on my V70 played up.
I took it to the main dealer expecting a large bill ……

It turned out to be a software issue for which they charged something nominal.

I found a fix for this sunroof issue and thought I'd post for anyone else who suffers a similar problem. Basically, you can re-calibrate the sunroof and it re-sets itself and all operations work again. I did this and it solved the problem for me.

Here is what you do if you lose the auto operation of the sunroof and need to reset it:
1.) Start the car and do this engine running, in park, sunroof and shade closed
2.) Hold the sunroof switch in what the service manual calls "position 4" this is the first detent pushing forward/down to close the sunroof, do not push through to the second detent auto-close "position 5"
3.) Hold the switch in this position for 40 secs ( I counted 50 seconds so be patient) nothing will happen. Keep holding the switch in "position 4"
4.) After the 40 sec, the shade and then sunroof will fully open and close, keep holding the switch in "position 4" until the sunroof and shade have fully opened and then closed.
5.) Once the sunroof is done opening closing you can release the switch.

Really really useful thanks. This also worked on my XC60.
