Volvo V50 brakes bled and still spongy
Discussion
Hi, my d2 V50 passed MOT yesterday and a few weeks ago service included brake fluid change and bleed. No issues at all reported with brakes and power, but the brakes feel spongy.
The MOT tester said it may just be the car model as it’s been like it for ages (that’s why I got brakes bled), but was wondering if it is just how they are?
It’s not leaking fluid, no advisories on lines pads or rotors. I guess it could still have air but it was bled on some new fangled automatic machine, and was told totally clear of air when it was done.
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Probably some air trapped in the ABS pump.
Normally sorted out by a pressure bleed also using the pedal.
Hi, just came back from a drive paying particular notice of brakes. When stationary (with car running), I hear a whoosh noise from pedal for two depresses, pedal then goes hard and noise goes. After a few seconds it will do it again, but constant pumping of pedal and it won’t make the noise.Normally sorted out by a pressure bleed also using the pedal.
It sounds just like my old e30 bmw when master cylinder was leaking.
Does that lend more evidence to your ABS pump theory?
I’m the normal scheme of things it would definitely sound like it needs a bleed but has been checked and double checked for that already.
