Hello byebye

We picked our 1st Volvo up yesterday smile A 2018 D5 Momentum in Onyx Black, 28,000 miles with the Winter and Xenium Packs.

Would love to say it went without a hitch but it was a complete stshow from start to finish. This is from a Volvo Selekt Dealer btw.

Before we bought the car we agreed with the dealer that certain things would be sorted on the car; it needed tyres, there was a deep scratch on the bonnet and a slightly less deep one on the tailgate. It was to be MoT'ed and serviced, a towbar and volvo rubber mats fitted.

Told to turn up at 15:30, car would be back from the valeters at 14:00. Turned up at 15:20, no sign of car. Salesman says we can sign all the paperwork while you wait, no we won't, not till we see the car.

Car turns up at 16:30 looking like its been valeted by Stevie Wonder, bonnet looks good but tailgate still scratched rolleyes Everything else done so Ok, bit disappointing but it can be sorted. It then gets worse biglaugh

I look at the service book and the service just done by the dealer has 13450 miles on it, car has done 27899. Salesman has no idea why that is. I look at the warranty and its got the wrong model of XC90 on it, a Petrol 2020my. Salesman has no idea why that is. Don't worry it will be sorted.

He goes and puts some fuel in and the Fuel cap lock thingy breaks (or was already broken and it hadn't been checked), manage to bodge that back together enough so it will stay closed. Don't worry it will be sorted. By this time its 17:30. I need a PIN to set up the volvo app, salesman can't give me a PIN, system is down. Don't worry, it will be sorted.

Jump in the car to leave, stick my quad lock mount on the winscreen and plug in the 12v adaptor, nothing, doesn't work. troup back in, tell them. It's probably a fuse but the service dept is shut now. Put in on the list.

Set off, notice a mark or something on the rear window but as we are now in traffic on a dual carriageway we will look at home (40 mins away). Car drives very nice, all the gadjets seem to work, nice and comfy. Get home and find the mark is where someone has scratched the aftermarket tint of the rear screen. I decide to check the fuse, pop the bonnet catch but the yellow release thingy does not let me open it. Seems to work on the drivers side but not the passenger. Ho Hum. Pissed off. Lock the car go inside and type a long email to the Dealer manager.

Got a call this morning from him, a thousand apoligies etc etc. Bring the car back and it will be sorted, Here's a XC40 to drive around in while we sort it.
We will see.

Not impressed with the dealer but I like the car. By themselves the issues are not the end of the world but it shows a pattern of not checking things correctly or not even checking at all. Hopefully they will pull their socks up.

Sorry to hear of your issues with the Volvo. I picked up my 2017 XC90 Inscription on Saturday from Grantham, same colour as yours.
Grantham is not local to me, but my previous dealings with my nearest dealer made me look a little further afield.
This too was a Selekt car. I can't fault the dealer or the car, it has had the mother of all preps/detailing carried out on it, it would pass easily for a one year old car.
I hope you get everything sorted swiftly. Maybe you can try another dealer for any future work, the warranty is valid at any Volvo retailer I believe.

The dealerships are fancy looking but you have to always expect something to go wrong. Mine went in yesterday for a big service and cam belt. They didn’t do the cambelt.

Hopefully they will sort it.

Prep work wise I think they jsut ran out of time and rather than say "its not going to be ready" they just tried to wing it and this is the result. The mechanical stuff is more a case of not checking anything and ticking the boxes. I am guessing the guy who did it is in for a bking.

We bought the car from a dealer in a Northern Cheshire town begining with W, they also are our local dealer but didn' have any suitable cars when we started looking and the other dealer did. Plus the W dealer returned my calls straight away where as our local one was like pulling teeth to get them to speak to you.

Probably take it to the local one for any work as its 15 mins away.

Monthly bonus cut-off influenced this transaction, perhaps?

Top work. rolleyes

We have the same attitude. The Xtrail the XC90 has replaced was bought from a family run Nissan dealer who are 3 miles away, as was the Xtrail that one replaced. They can't compete with the local multi franchise C*****Y group dealers on price so they major in customer service.

My Renault Trafic went to possibly the smallest Renault main dealer in the UK 10 miles from us who employ mechanics, not technicians and the boss is a old school guy who knows how vehicles work, not a blue suit/brown shoes type.

Update on the XC90.

It went back to the dealer and good as their word everything was fixed (so we thought), seat noise fixed, tailgate was resprayed, new fuel cap, new 12v socket, rear window retinted, car valeted, adblue topped up and half a tank of diesel added.

Seat has started to click again (sounds like something in the hinge has broken), Dealer's head tech lives about 1 mile from me so he called round after work, had a look, ordered the parts and will be picking the car up when we get back from our 1st van trip with it. Saves me driving it to the dealer and I get a nice new volvo to have a look at/drive round in.

Done a few hundred miles in in now and its a excellent car, nice and smooth and quiet, seats are comfy and even though its the base model its go all the toys I could want (except cooled seats), mix of very short runs and a few trips up the motorway have it at 33mpg which for a 2 ton lump isn't bad.

Boot is vast with the 3rd row down which is where they will stay 99% of the time, just need a boot mat now as the £225 for the Volvo one is a bit much.
