Got a 2008 V50 D5 which came with 2 fully working remotes. Now only the one I use regularly is able to lock/unlock remotely. The other has not been used since buying the car.

So I tried it yesterday and it wont open/close the door locks but it will start the car. I fitted a new battery but no luck. I have a key fob tester that flashes if a signal is sent when locking or unlocking which it does. I can only assume the signal is corrupt or wrong.

So, can I reinitialise the fob without an expensive trip to the dealer? I've tried the usual searches online but nothing seems to match my fobs as most are for keyless which I don't have.

I had a facelift v50 until recently & everything was dealer only at ridiculous money.

It was going to cost well over £300 for a replacement.

So much so that I have heard through several sources to NEVER buy a Volvo without 2 working fobs, which I made sure of with the replacement v40.

Usually the little push buttons fail on the circuit board. I'd buy a repair kit from Ebay, and carefully solder it the new switches in.
They can only be programmed by Volvo, or some fairly specialist key places.

I spent months trying to find somewhere/anywhere in Yorkshire (any of the 4 counties) to do this, many websites said they could & when it came down to it all said main dealer only.

It can be done by anyone with the correct software & licence, but apparently that is many £1000/year so it will likely remain main dealer only.

Thanks. I'll manage for now as this is our second car so not absolutely essential.

Try KAPautolocks (in Rochdale), they were recommended to me in the past.
