Part numbers - gearbox & steering rack [S60, P2]
Discussion
Hi all - would be hugely grateful if someone here with more knowledge than me and/or VIDA could help me here please!
Car is a 2004 S60, 2.0T, first of the facelifts which isnt usually relevant but seems very much so in the case of Volvo.
Short version is that I've got what seems to be a noisy diff bearing that needs replacing. Currently assessing whether a used box or swapping out the bearings is the best option. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend with a garage who I can either help or be charged labour only, so at the same time looking to change out a steering rack that pulses a little bit.
This would be all well and good if I could make heads or tails of the sodding part numbers! For each we have:
Steering rack
Understand there are 2 manufacturers - ZF and SMI, with ZF usuall being fitted to post-2003 models. This however doesnt always seem to be the case, and from reading online there are also hybrid setups and some that are speed-sensitive. I've managed to find numbers on mine as follows:
7832565 - stamped into the part near the universal joint
P30723809, T190804010178 and 7853 974 220 on a sticker on n/s of the rack
7820040897 on the rack boot (but no SMI logo as suggested those racks would have)
Searches of these part numbers bring up the odd old ebay listing but not much else. Other forum posts suggest part numbers change frequently so really I'm after a) equivalents b) confirmation of rack manufacturer and type or c) better yet, a link to the right part!
Gearbox
"Type" (M56L) seems to be more easily identified in this case but seemingly used across multiple models which I assume will have specific mounting points. Numbers found so far as follows:
1023774 - stamped on lower casing
M56L 4.25 (presumably final drive), P9482207, T102306 on sticker on top of box seen from engine bay
Ideally I'd replace the diff bearing(s?) only - Google suggests Timken part number 32008XM but again I cant be entirely sure!
Any pointers would be majorly helpful, thanks in advance.

I have access to Vida and can look up the parts for you, i'm not 100% sure what info I need from you as my cars are logged on it after connecting it to the car but I think I just need the VIN.
So far by manually entering the make and model, it's suggesting 36050377 or 36050376 for the steering rack but not getting very far on the bearing.

That would be incredibly helpful, thank you.So far by manually entering the make and model, it's suggesting 36050377 or 36050376 for the steering rack but not getting very far on the bearing.
I'll ping you a PM with VIN and reg if it helps.
Hopefully it narrows down to a single rack, and if it can't identify the bearing the gearbox p/n would be hugely useful to compare and ascertain if others will fit.
