Anyone mapped the D4 engine?
Discussion
I have a V40 D4 but a manual. The Polestar software is subtle, but noticeable in the mid range. I believe with an auto that gets tweaked too. It’s expensive but I had an extended warrantee at the time. Volvo seem to be accommodating with goodwill in the event of failure, if maintained by a dealer. And let’s face it, these engines have their problems. Mine has a replacement!
I’ve got a D4 auto (V60) that’s had the Polestar remap. It’s a very subtle remap, there’s no extra big slug of torque nor stronger top end though it is noticeable. Throttle response is improved and overtaking is fairly effortless. On the SPA platform cars you get a “Polestar” driving mode so in effect it’s a switchable map. Mine came with it already on so I can’t say if the claims of maintaining the same mpg are true.
The gearbox is still rubbish to be fair, manual shifts still have a pause before a gear is selected, pulling out of a giveway is still a lottery as to wether it’ll drop to first and leave you bouncing off the governor in a cloud of tyre smoke or left floundering in a flat spot as it tries to work out which gear it needs to be in. It does tend to hold onto gears too in the Polestar mode which I find annoying, rather than using the torque of which it has plenty.
Most Volvo dealers have the Polestar on offer if you shop around (it’s certainly not worth the £700+ full price) and they offer a trial period after which they will return the car to standard if you don’t like it.

Where are you based? So far Stoke and Milton Keynes have agreed to it without buying a car, think York might as well.
Not sure of the specifics of your car but the D4 looks to get a similar hike to the D5 in my XC90
+10hp +40nm

I was going to go with Shemtek Automotive who said they could do the engine and gearbox on my XC90 for a similar cost to Polestar, think it was £350+vat but my Volvo is on 120k and the gearbox isn't capable of taking much more power so decided to go with the "safe" Polestar.
Think Shemtek for mine quoted +15-20hp and 60nm+
