I'm looking for a 2017 on XC60, I think the Inscription Pro spec would work well for me, but any thought on engines?
It'll do 5-10 a year, so while diesel is not really worth it for this sort of mileage, the petrols are scarce, so I reckon it'll be the diesel for me.
D4 or D5?

Any things to look out for with these cars?

I can't seem to find info on service costs, so would welcome any firsthand experience.

D4/D5 would ultimately come down to how much performance you want really. On the MK2 XC60 they are both 2.0 engines wit ha soft and high pressure turbo, main difference is software. Early D5's have Power Pulse, best to avoid if possible, generally goes wrong, nice idea but poor execution. D4's can soot up more than D5's presumably they aren't as tuned so don't get as hot.

Servicing is probably in line with Merc/BMW etc, circa £350-500 a go. If the car is under 44 months old you can get a 2 year service plan for £699. If the car is serviced with Volvo you get the next years roadside assistance free of charge.

Had a 2018 T8 R Design Pro.
Only issues I had were water/condensation in one of the rear lights clusters, sorted under warranty, and the chrome window surrounds were starting to go cloudy !! Looked quite bad in some places and couldn't 'fix' it myself so had them wrapped black. Seems a common problem across manufacturers - seen worse on a Porsche Macan. Also noticed a lot of UK cars had black window surrounds when I started paying attention.
The B&W sound system is well worth searching out - I wouldn't buy one without.

The mottling on the chrome trims is caused by the chemicals the roadside eastern European carwash places use. They generally use pretty strong truck wash/acid and it's no good on those types of trims. When I worked for a VW dealer we'd regularly bill the valeting contract company for thousands for damage their guys did to demonstrators by using it.

If you can find one with Pilot Assist, I'd take it as it wasn't standard on the 60 series, unlike the 90 series cars. It makes motorways and jams so much less stressful.
