Hello,

I've found a 2017 registered S60 D4 for sale locally to me. I've viewed and test driven the car. The car is in excellent condition both internally and externally, and drives well too. Two things concern me a bit - high mileage (109,000 miles), and the fact that despite having been serviced on an annual basis, I was unable to find any evidence of the timing belt having been changed.

I have a friend who will be able to replace the timing belt for me at cost price, so getting that replaced won't me a huge concern to me.

How durable is the D4 engine, and will it be likely to have another 100K+ worth of miles left in it, and what is the build quality like on these cars? Being based on the same platform as the Mondeo, do they have the problem with body corrosion which you quite often see on Fords?

Thanks in advance,

That’s not high mileage for a diesel. Change time belt and frequent oil and filter changes and car should be good for another 109k miles, imho

As above, that should be about right for a diesel that was bought with it's usage pattern in mind.

Belt is 10 years or 100K so is only just up.

Get it done & the car will go forever.

I bought an S80 a few months ago 2015 plate with only 23k on the clock..... If you are not sure if belt has been changed get it done for peace of mind. I did even though miles wise it was fine.
I had a V70 that had done 268k when the water pump seized and snapped the belt.... gutted the car was only 23 years old.... yours with sevicing as required will go for ever.... i love em

Is this the 2.0 VEA? As said, belts and a preference for annual oil changes.

Good question - my 2012 S60 had an advisory at last years MOT for ‘general underbody corrosion’ - the tester said he sees a lot of that with newer Volvos. I took it to my normal mechanic and he said it’s just surface rust and nothing to worry about. You can obviously get the underbody treated
