I understand that since Volvo introduced the new Google infotainment system, it has had quite a lot of issues, some of which have been serious enough to immobilise the cars and which dealers have been unable to fix.

Were these just teething issues? Have they mostly been resolved now?

Interested in views from owners.

Asking as I’m considering a new XC90 to replace our (extremely unreliable) Range Rover P400E.

Really don’t want to jump from the frying pan into the fire!

Alternative thought is the smaller and more expensive Cayenne.

Thank you, it doesn’t sound all that promising… :-(

To be honest, if you are thinking of ordering new, what with the long lead times at the moment, the majority of the bugs would hopefully be fixed?

Perhaps that's why my local dealer just offered me a loyalty discount on stock XC40s.

I have a 71 plate XC60 with the Google infotainment system. It’s worked fine and they keep on updating it with over the air updates. There did seem to be some glitches on early cars using it but over on the Volvo forums most seem happy now. Otherwise the XC60
has been reliable.

Thank you, I was hoping they were teething issues and now getting sorted…and as a previous poster said, hopefully even more sorted by the time a new one might be delivered, given current lead times.

I’m having serious issues with mine (Jan 22 XC60 Recharge)

The day I collected it from the dealer I waited for 3 hours as they couldn’t get a TPMS warning off the dash. A few days later I kept losing my sat nav. This issue has been going on for 6 months now.

At 6 weeks old and 2300 miles it had new front brake discs as they were warped.

Last night it had an OTA software update and this morning it wouldn’t start. Volvo assist attended but couldn’t fix it, so it’s been recovered back to the dealer who can’t sort it either.

Holy thread resurrection…

So we ordered the car (B5D Plus) and were due to collect it last Sunday. When we started it at the dealer, it immediately threw up a ‘Stop safely - 12v battery critical charging fault’ and was in limp home mode. We obviously were unable to drive it away.

As it turned out the car was not as we had specified it either and we have subsequently rejected it.

That’s a whole different story and the dealer (who have been pretty helpful) and Volvo are trying to sort out a replacement - but I am seriously concerned now about the whole thing and am in two minds whether to walk away or to wait for a correctly specified one. Genuinely uncertain whether to proceed.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it a one-off or a regular / known fault?

Hi MM,

I had this fault in my new XC90 back in March 2021
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It's a known issue with Volvo and has been resolved in mine after a couple of weeks.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the reply, hopefully not a recurring fault then. Dealer is trying to sort out a replacement car now but this is due to the spec, not the fault.
