Hi all

Bought a 2020 Volvo XC90 with the B5 diesel hybrid engine earlier this year. When we picked it up, the adblue tank was full.

We've done about 4.5k miles and, today the low adblue warning message came up and, when I checked the tank was 1/5th full.

It's hardly expensive (cost €30 to top up at a French auto route service station) but I was surprised it had used so much - the manual suggested that topping up between services should be a rarity.

What experiences have others had?

Both my vw touareg and Fiat Ducato based motorhome seem to get through loads. Looks like every 2500 miles.

Our Range Rover went through 20 litres every 4000 miles or so. Was heavy.

Sounds about right - my XJ gets through a tankful roughly every 5k miles.

It’s a right pain as well as the tank is under the boot floor and you have to remove the spare wheel to fill it. Pretty much my only peeve with the car!

I guess it depends on the size of the ad blue tank, I've done 10k and I'm down to 15% left saying I've got around 1000 miles to do and need to fill up.

Short town trips will have it drinking adblue heavily.

Our transits manage 4500 miles between fill ups.
They do lots of short stop start trips.

Ok, given it's the family run about that does school/tip/shopping runs, interspersed with some long motorway runs, it sounds like nothing wrong or out of the ordinary.

Unlike the Jaguar, the filler is next to the fuel filler so no faff at all to get to

I don’t know if it varies across manufacturers but it’s consumed in ratio to diesel used, isn’t it?

Wife’s late mk1 Tiguan was one of the first to get AdBlue and the VW website started off saying it was a service item, but for a while every time we looked they’d changed the info. There were people rejected cars at first.

Her car, doing a true 38MPG, does around 500 miles per litre of AdBlue.

On the information display there is an Adblue range setting on my Skoda Octavia, from memory it shows 5000 miles when full.
Would have thought there would be one on the Volvo buried somewhere.
