The S60 and S90 have recently appeared on my radar as a potential next purchase. I would be looking at a 2-year-old petrol-engined version of either, and would be interested to read opinions of past or present owners of these models.

Most available S60s appear to be R-Design T5 models, whereas with the S90, T4 Momentum Plus versions are more common.

I have seen tests that criticise ride quality and the automatic gearbox, so wonder how owners find each of those aspects in the real world. In addition, what are the views of the T4 190PS unit in the larger S90 body? Outright performance is not a priority - "brisk" would be adequate for my purpose - but decent ride comfort and refinement are important.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I've got the S90 T4 on a 20 plate and have had it for 2 years on a lease, just extended the lease for another year at the same price as cheapest thing I can get at the moment!

No complaints for comfortable and easy driving. Mainly local journeys plus quite a few trips up and down the M1 and M6. Tyres look like they will last the 3 years (24,000 miles). 33.6mpg is the average so far. I don't like the gear changing on ECO setting as it's too slow to change, but it's fine on normal setting.

I have a V90 T4 R Design on 18inch alloys, ride and comfort are both superb. The gear box is very slow to react, you really need to plan any overtakes/pulling out into traffic however you do get used to it. Performance wise, the engine does get noisy if you try to make swift progress, no one would call it fast, just adequate. I expect the torque of the d4 would make the car more effortless to drive but haven’t driven one. I am averaging around 30mpg with short to medium journeys

I decided to go with the S60 in the end. The S90 looks a lot of car for the money but I concluded the sheer size of the thing could be a hindrance and the S60 is big enough for my requirements.

Thanks anyway for the replies.
