Any age, any volvo model will be eligible for free repairs where possible to tyres and windscreens.

Sounds good on the face of it, I expect that the list of exclusions though will be pretty extensive.

All the same, it does reinforce their image as a safety conscious manufacturer.

I agree it is a positive step, there will be a long list of exclusions and I suspect it is a way to drive revenue in to their service centres with the reduced service requirements of electric vehicles.

I don’t doubt they will slowly move to subsidised MOTs or similar in the hope they can make money fixing the issues.

Call my a cynic, but you don't get anything for nothing. They are running a business after all.

Just like the free health check so many garages offer - it's a way to look over your car, and sell you a new tyre ('sorry sir, that puncture is unrepairable under our high standard criteria'), or notice that your brake pads are low, or would you like a service plan etc etc.

Our local Toyota dealer have offered free puncture repairs for years.
The simple plugging of a nail type saves a tenner, but if there is greater damage they only offered a new tyre at a fixed full price..
It also gave them the chance to have a look at the other checks whilst the car was on the ramp smile

No repairs in red zone (shown on their graphic) as well as the windscreen perimeter.

Rubbish.

Has anyone here seen the list of exclusions then? I believe my s80 has a known fault for leaking windscreen but as its 2010 I presume they won't be interested in that?

Took a tiny stone chip within 5mm of the edge of my windscreen on way to work on Saturday. Heard it hit and then saw a 4cm crack appear stage right.

Thought hopefully that is was actually a bit of grass stuck to the outside but no, on leaning out, I could keel the crack. Then watched it grow in a looping L shape for the rest of the journey.

Definitely in the red replace zone. So out of interest I called Yeovil Volvo to see what their new gig is. It would be nice to have an oem replacement. I know that Autoglass etc will use a perfectly adequate equivalent but even so.

The nice chaps said their bloke had done the filling training but not the replacement one yet! I’m not sure if my insurer will authorise the Volvo route or whether it must be through their agreed provider. However the Volvo guy said if you pitch up, they make an assessment and will then approach my insurer for approval. So I suppose nothing to lose. Got to be worth a visit.

All good.
Up until i remember my local Volvo dealer is Arnold Clark. Who, based on the two experiences of them trying to fix warranty or recall issues, I wouldn't trust to clean a spoon let alone work on my car.
