I've got a 2010 XC70 D5 with the normal suspension and the dampers are now shot.

Rather than simply replacing with OEM dampers, are there any better options? I wouldn't mind if they were slightly stiffer to reduce the roll but I also don't mind if that's not an option.

Would anybody have any recommendations please?

My go to for shock upgrade or replacement is always Bilstein on almost any car . I would start there looking at options and costs. Start at b4’s and work your way up depending on how sporty you want to go. I’m assuming they are available for the xc70.

Thanks, it looks like the B4, B6 or B8 models. I didn't consider looking at the manufacturer's website, I was googling for XC70 upgraded suspension and not really finding anything.

Been told its B4 OEM, B6 stiffer, B8 for lower that was for my SAAB, looking at XC90 stuff now as well.

As with any worn parts, replacing OEM spec should see a dramatic improvement without any need to further upgrade as it were. I'm not sure if want an XC70 any stiffer and would probably spread the budget over less spendy shocks but also do the strut tops, any worn bushes and the like... rather than spend it all on upgraded shock absorbers alone. I'd agree with Bikstein being excellent, but equally Sachs or KYB are good but would be OEM spec.

That's what I've just found out as well. I think I'd want the B4 for OEM feel but, maybe, improved damping.

Or... for the sake of knowing it's right, just buy proper OEM ones

If you buy the aftermarket parts from the same supplier, they are normally about 10% stiffer than the OE setting anyway… so that would be my tip.
