Hi all

We have a V40 T3 currently and very happy with it. It is however a bit too small now we have a dog so thinking about getting a V60 D4 R design, probably between 2015 and 2018 years, <45k miles.

I love that my V40 is quiet so I'm guessing the V60 will be the same if not moreso but what is the ride like? Do they have electric opening boots or is it like mine where the latch is remote so you still lift the boot?

Any known faults/issues at all?

Cheers.

My father changed from a V40 to V60 after the pedestrian airbag went off of its own accord. The first thing noticeable is the how much more refined the V60 is, both in terms of noise and ride. We didn't consider the V40 to be deficient at the time, but the V60 was that much better. He went from SE Lux to SE Lux, I imagine the difference would be similar for R-design.

His didn't have a power tailgate, the similar age XC60 I had was fitted with one. I can see it being necessary on the XC60 for shorter people, but less so on the V60. I generally found it slightly obstructive, especially on my current V60.

I have a 63 Plate V60 D4 R-Design, it is a nice car overall, but the ride is crap. I've just replaced the rear dampers and it is still crashy. Seems a common trend with the car.

The V40 may well be the same, but I have a feeling it would ride better than the R-design V60 does.

V60's aren't very big inside either, huge and awkward on the outside (bloody impossible to judge the corners of the vehicle IMO), small boot and limited rear leg room on the inside.

Had I not got mine cheap, I'd be disappointed.

Forget R design spec if a half decent ride is required. My V60 was SE lux spec and the ride was acceptable.

Thanks all. Maybe I'll get a drive in one before I buy.

Good idea. The seats in mine are great, just the ride that is poor.

The bigger alloys (18s on mine) don't really help, with skinny tyres. I'm planning on getting a set of 16s when the tyres are due to be replaced, hopefully the larger sidewall will help a bit.

I think if mine had a softer ride, it would be a MUCH better car.

Cheers.. Interesting feedback as I think my V40 is a bit bumpy at times but when I had a V40 cross country courtesy car, the ride was much much better.

I have a 2014 V60 R-Design which is lovely if a little choppy at times. When I put my winter tyres/17" wheels on it always surprises me how much nicer and more comfy it is. No electric boot release.
