Very loud noise like a pulley bearing so took off the aux belt and the problem is for sure linked as the noise went away when I started the engine to check. The tensioner is bad but that’s dead easy. The ac bearing is also very very noisy on spinning by hand. The rest are ok. How do you know if just the bearing can be changed or if i need a new compressor?

I’m 99% sure it’ll be going to a garage as I just don’t have the time to dig into removing the ac compressor but it would be good to know how they work and would rather not spend on a new compressor when a bearing will do.

Thanks guys.

Why not price up the compressor and ask the garage which is cheaper to do?
Is fitting a whole compressor easier than stripping and replacing parts?
Labour charges could dramatically affect the overall bill for something like that.

I’ll be talking to them about it but all things considered it should be cheaper if it’s just the bearing /clutch as it much cheaper for the parts and maybe a hour labour to swap those bits on top of removal and fitting.

Question still stands if anyone knows. How do you know if it’s just clutch and bearing or new compressor needed?
