Morning all, hoping for some advice from the collective….

Picked up a 2000 V70 Cross Country 2.4T Auto in December. It’s only done 88k and in general is in excellent condition.

Something letting the car down badly though is the state of the ignition key - it’s a plasticky/rubbery mess and given it is in my hand before I even open the car I’m going I can change it for not too much money?

There is a separate fob for locking and unlocking the car which is in great condition, so it’s just the key itself. Timpsons told me it contains the immobiliser and they can supply and code a replacement for around £90.

Is it something anybody does cheaper or I can do at home?

Thanks in advance

Issue is, you need to a) key the new key blade and b) code the chip to the car and both of those take specialist gear.

You won't get a matched key unless it's cut to spec be it Volvo or a specialist then coding usually takes diagnostic gear so being honest, £90 all in doesn't seem too bad given I was quoted in the region of £300.00 for the each of mine (fully integrated keys)
