C70 second generation
Discussion
I am looking into getting one. Preferably 2.4 petrol or t5.
Manual but would consider auto if the car looks a good buy
Any first hand experience or advice greatly appreciated

I enjoyed my 2008 D5 and did 100k odd in it over 3 years. Very comfortable, not at all sporty, wicked roof, genuine four seater for adults, and a good looking car.
Try and get a 57 plate onwards '08 MY car, they updated it and fixed a few bugs. You can recognised them from the different centre console between the seats, silver rings on the instruments, and different door mirrors.
Auto T5s are in the silly tax bracket until '08 I think, the manuals are a 6 speed and much faster because the old 5 speed AW box is a bit crap. The 2.4i uses just as much fuel but has a lot less shove; it also gets a 5 speed manual. The D5 is good but coarse, the power delivery suited the car mine was a manual and I got a lifetime average for 40mpg.
You have to get an SE Lux spec car for the Dynaudio stereo, it's truly phenomenal. Try and get xenon lights, the halogens are fking AWFUL.
Other than that they are robust and reliable, with aftermarket options available for the few real issues they commonly have (ATE brake controllers on early cars can fail, £200 rebuilt. CEM can play up).
If budget stretches the later D3 and D4 models still have a 5 pot volvo engine but get a much better 6 speed auto. Don't buy the 2.0d four pot diesel, obviously.

Thanks for the info. Just need to go and see one in the flesh now
