P3 V70 door locks failing
Discussion
Our V70 is becoming increasingly difficult to get into. It's seems worse in cold weather but when you unlock it, you pull the handle and it doesn't open. The pin for the lock on the inside comes up, but you have to walk around to the passenger side and pull the internal handle to open the drivers door. Not ideal!
It is intermittent, and it happened once or twice not long after buying the car 3 years ago, I sprayed the lock mechanism and behind the handle with some oil and it seemingly solved it.
I have read on here it is not uncommon but I've been quoted by and independent £168 for a replacement lock/motor from volvo and about 1.5 hours labour to replace. Is there a cheaper solution, I'd imagine it's only something simple that has failed.

Standard issue on Ford era cars.
The motors (basically a Scalextric car motor) can fail but it's usually associated wear in the plastic gears and / or levers with the lock assembly so it gets lazy and doesn't "unlock" properly. Magic spray is unlikely to resolve.
They share door locks with a Mondeo so bar swapping one rod from the Volvo unit to the Ford unit, it's plug and play. I paid a fiver for a pair from a breaker and about an hour a side plus patience to replace. It's a fiddly job but YouTube has entry guides. I'm sure you could further strip the kickstand replace any worn parts individually but that way too much of a faff for me.
However that involves DIY and non guaranteed used parts so if that's not your thing then it's looking like £168 each and 1.5hrs labour per side.
They all do it sir, characteristic of the car sir
