Gen 2 C70 T5 flooding in morning, no start.
Discussion
Well I am at a loss with this one, brother has rebuilt the engine. second hand block, tested for cracked liners, crank checked and new bearings, head fully rebuilt and skimmed.
Got it back in the car, all timed up correctly, drained the fuel tank of old fuel and fresh was put in, new plugs, new coilpacks (Bosch), new genuine Volvo sensors.
You go to start it, it chugs over, floods, borewashes, compression drops, remove plugs, remove fuel pump fuse, clear bores, add a drop of oil to each cylinder, spin it over, plugs back in, coil packs on, it will then start and runs lovely, shut it off when it is warm, go to restart and it struggles, foot flat to the floor and it will come back into life. leave it over night and when cold, back to the start, floods, borewash, oil cylinders etc.
Using Vida Dice, we have done
Throttle adaption, this checks out ok
Inlet camshaft adaption, base line is 27 degrees at idle, inlet angle when running is 27.25 degrees, which I think is within tolerance, and this is matched through the testing at 5k rpm for 10 seconds, which needs to be repeated 5 times, but Vida doesn't seem to say it's done, as there is no "test finished" (assume it is meant to)
Exhaust cam adapation base line is 26 degrees, when running the angle is 26 degrees bang on, and values are all within a tolerance, but again never comes up with a test finished.
Fuel pump pressure test has been done and it passes, base line is 400kpa, and then matches through all tests within 2-4kpa, which also confirms the new fuel pressure regulator is working.
It shows up zero fault codes on both Vida and Snap On Solus, next step is to pull the plugs in the morning and borescope it to see if perhaps fuel is leaking through injectors and into the cylinders, but I can't see it being that because it struggles to start when warm, that means turn car off and then go to start it straight back up and it struggles and chugs into life, I am discounting the cat because it has just had an MOT and passed emissions, it has a brand new battery on it as well, for all intents and purposes this is a brand new engine, it has had the liner mod as well.
Honestly I am stumped, I will update tomorrow with morning compression readings before we attempt to start it.
